  • Aaron Boone said he still expects Chapman to pitch again this season
  • Even before dealing with infection, Chapman didn’t play in a game since Aug 19

The New York Yankees bullpen took another blow on Saturday after seven-time All-Star Aroldis Chapman was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to August 24.

According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Chapman is recovering from a leg infection stemming from a tattoo Chapman recently received.

Chapman has not appeared in a game for the Yankees since August 19th.

‘He did not have to go to the hospital, he saw the doctor here [in Oakland],’ Boone told reporters Saturday. ‘We sent him home Thursday, and we kept him back in the hotel Friday.’

‘They’re treating it and addressing it. You know, antibiotics and things like that, and we’re hoping it’s something that’s not going to get more serious.’

Boone also added that he expects Chapman to pitch again this season.

Chapman sports a 4.70 ERA this season to go along with a 1.44 WHIP. He has been used in several different roles this season.

Regardless of Chapman’s uncharacteristic ineffectiveness this season, the Yankees may have no choice but to relay on him more heavily while the rest of the bullpen deals with injuries.

Fellow pitchers Michael King and Chad Green are both out for the remainder of the season. Clay Holmes, Albert Abreu, Scott Effross and Miguel Castro are all dealing with injuries of their own as well to make matters worse.

On the bright side, New York posses a nine-game lead for first place in the American League East.

They are also riding a five-game winning streak that includes a sweep of the cross town rival New York Mets.
