• Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern side have lost their last three games in all competitions
  • Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure will leave a huge vacancy at Liverpool

Thomas Tuchel is open to a Premier League return after Bayern Munich confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season.

The German’s departure is set to have implications on a number of English top-flight club’s decisions with regards to their managerial positions heading into next season.

In particular, Liverpool’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso will be tested with Bayern keen to discuss their forthcoming vacancy with the Spaniard coach.

Tuchel has been under major pressure at the Allianz Arena in recent weeks following a poor run of form that has seen them fall eight points behind Alonso’s team and lose their Champions League last 16 first leg tie to Lazio 1-0.

And on Wednesday morning Bayern confirmed the German will leave the club at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp's departure from Anfield this summer leaves a vacancy at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Anfield this summer leaves a vacancy at Liverpool

Tuchel enjoyed major success at Chelsea, winning the Champions League, before being sacked towards the start of last season.

But the 50-year-old is keen on working in the Premier League once again, news that will alert a number of teams ahead of the summer.

Liverpool will certainly be looking for a new manager ahead of next season after Jurgen Klopp confirmed last month that he would be stepping down.

Intriguingly, Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke went on record to insist Klopp would not be replacing Tuchel at Bayern this summer, saying: ‘He will not coach any club or national team for a year after this current season. That remains unchanged.’

In addition to the Liverpool vacancy, Manchester United, West Ham, Brighton and even former club Chelsea are among the clubs that could be in the market for a new head coach at the end of the season.

Tuchel’s track record of success in English football would be an attractive proposition for a number of clubs.

The seriousness of Liverpool’s interest in Alonso is now likely to become clearer as Bayern set their sights on appointing the former Spain midfielder as Tuchel’s replacement.

In a straight race with Bayern, Alonso’s emotional ties to Anfield would provide the Merseysiders with encouragement that he would return to the club he served as a player over staying in Germany.

But with the Bayern chiefs preparing to accelerate their interest, Liverpool may need to act fast if they have decided Alonso is a genuine contender to replace Klopp.

Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi, whose future at the Amex beyond this season is unclear, is also admired by Liverpool.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how England captain Harry Kane’s future is impacted by Tuchel’s imminent exit.

Kane has been in the process of moving his wife Kate and four children over to Munich and is said to be settled in Germany.

Tuchel was at the centre of Bayern’s drive to sign Kane last summer and while there is no indication the striker, who has scored 29 goals in all competitions for the Bavarian side this season, would seek an exit it remains to be seen if the appointment of a new head coach alters the landscape of the 30-year-old’s future.
