Alan Shearer slammed Marcus Rashford for his body language in the first half of Manchester United’s FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest.

United had a difficult first period against their opponents, going into the break at 0-0 as they looked to set up a tie against Liverpool of Southampton in the quarter-finals.

The FA Cup posed what was potentially the last hope for some success out of the season for United, who have had a difficult campaign with uncertainty over whether Erik ten Hag will be the manager next season.

Rashford has been one of the disappointments of the season for the club, but United hoped he had turned a corner after an issue that saw him call in sick for training after being seen in a Belfast night club last month.

Shearer, working as a pundit on BBC for the game, led the criticism for the forward as he called for him to take more responsibility for his actions.

‘Come on Marcus, get up. Stop waving your arms around,’ he said. ‘You’ve got to do better.

‘I don’t like his body language at times. He’s trying to send a message out to the fans, it’s not my fault. You as an individual have to take responsibility now and again for your actions on the pitch. Get up and get on with it.’

‘Marcus Rashford still has to send out the correct message to the fans with his body language and at times this season he hasn’t done that. He is getting frustrated.’

After netting 30 goals in all competition this season, Rashford has found the back of the net just five times in the current campaign.

He was asked to play the No 9 role against Forest, struggling throughout as United found it hard going in front of goal without Rasmus Hojlund.

Things didn’t get much better for the Red Devils in the second half of the game, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony also struggling at the top end of the pitch.

Antony was substituted for Amad Diallo after 73 minutes as he went another game without registering a goal or assist this season.
