  • Jack Draper beats Radu Albot in straight sets to reach US open second round
  • Dan Evans joins Draper as he defeats Daniel Galan in another straight sets win
  • They join Brits Cameron Norrie, Katie Boulter and Andy Murray in round two

British success continued on day two of the US Open as Jack Draper and Dan Evans both made made it through to the second round.

Earlier in the day, Flushing Meadows had already seen wins for Cameron Norrie, Katie Boulter and Andy Murray, while Lilly Miyazaki’s win on Monday means there are six British players into the next round.

It was Draper’s first Grand Slam outing since injuring his shoulder at this year’s French Open, an injury that forced the 21-year-old out of Wimbledon.

However, Draper looked to be making up for lost time as he raced into a 6-1 first set lead against Radu Albot, before completing the victory 6-4, 6-3 to beat the Moldavan, ranked 102 in the world.

He will now face either 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz or world number 97 Marc-Andrea Huesler in the second round.

Evans, completed an almost perfect day for British players with his win over Colombian Daniel Galan, with a 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 straight sets victory.

The 26th seed will now face Dutchman Botic Van De Zandschulp in the next round and it means a British player is yet to drop a set in this year’s tournament so far.

Evan’s win was the culmination of a flurry of victories in the opening round of the US Slam. Katie Boulter had kicked-off proceedings by winning her first round match against Diane Parry in confident fashion 6-4, 6-0.

That was followed by Cameron Norrie’s dispatch of Russian Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets as the British number one looks to better his fourth round showing in New York last year.

Andy Murray then kept the momentum going on his comeback tour, by beating Corentin Moutet 6-2, 7-5, 6-3, much to the delight of a home crowd who saw Murray win his first-ever Grand Slam at this venue in 2012.
