After being diagnosed with breast cancer in early March, the journalist decided to have a double mastectomy to deal with her condition.

Sally had previous surgery to get a lump removed on her right breast not too long ago. However, her doctor advised her to have her right breast removed since they found some cancerous cells on the lump, although it was not malignant.

With a history of breast cancer claiming the life of her mother in her thirties, the 42-year-old decided not to take any chances and have both her breasts removed.

Therefore, the South Today co-presenter quit the show to prepare for her surgery in the late 90s.

Taylor did return for a few moments on BBC South Today, like filling in for Dorcas Henry when he collapsed live on air in 2003. She also hosted the South Today Debate on BBC One with Naga Munchetty, called the Spending Review in 2010 and was seen in BBC South News in 2020.
