Actress Mariska Hargitay, known for her iconic role as Olivia Benson on the hit TV series “Law & Order: SVU,” recently added a cat to her family and named it after a song by none other than pop superstar Taylor Swift.
The gesture notably caught the attention of the “Bad Blood” hitmaker, who reacted to Hargitay’s homage to her with a sweet comment. Swift, on her part, had also named her feline friend in 2014 Olivia Benson, as a nod to the actress’ character on “Law & Order: SVU.”
Mariska Hargitay Pays Homage To Taylor Swift
In a recent post, Hargitay took to her Instagram account to introduce her new furry pal to her followers, writing in the caption a line from Swift’s song “Karma.”
“Karma is a Cat @taylorswift Meet Karma. My Cat.,” Hargitay wrote on Instagram, quoting the lyrics to the song with hashtags #MeAndKarmaVibeLikeThat and #KarmaIsACat. In the Midnights album, Swift sings, “Sweet like honey, karma is a cat purring in my lap ’cause it loves me.”
It comes after Swift paid homage to the “Tales from Earthsea” actress in 2014 by naming her own cat Olivia Benson, Hargitay’s famed character in the Law and Order franchise.
Both stars share a special connection that goes beyond their respective status, with Hargitay appearing in Swift’s music video for the song “Bad Blood.” She also joined the popstar onstage during two shows on her 1989 World Tour in Philadelphia in June 2015, alongside other famous friends from the “Bad Blood” music video on the MTV VMAs red carpet that same year.
The singer is a proud cat mom of 3 and named them all after TV or movie characters: Benjamin Button, Olivia Benson, and Meredith Grey.
Taylor Swift ‘Loves’ Mariska Hargitay’s Homage
The singer was seemingly awestruck by Hargitay’s gesture as she took to Instagram to share her reactions to the honor.
Swift responded to her post, writing, “Are you serious?!!!! Nothing has ever come more full circle. LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!” The post has gotten over 200,000 reactions since it was posted, bringing to note how much of a following Swift has.
One such full-circle moment came when the actress found herself on the catwalk alongside Swift in 2015 during the 1989 World Tour. Hargitay recently supported Swift when she attended the premiere of the film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.”
“She’s pure magic. There’s nothing she can’t do. It’s been so beautiful to reconnect to that innocence, you know? I think Taylor gives such a beautiful message to kids and unlocks these girls’ emotions,” she told the news outlet.
Swifties Go Wild Over The Sweet Gesture
Several Swifties have been quick to express their excitement and support for the heartwarming gesture.
A fan wrote, “Man… A cat has a bigger net worth than I’ll probably ever make in my life.” Another Swiftie said, “This makes me so happy on another level and I don’t even like cats.”
A third fan added, “So Taylor named her cat Olivia Benson and now Maritska names her cat Karna. I live for this friendship.”
“Two queens having cats named after each other’s things is iconic,” a fan penned.
“Mariska I can’t even begin to express how happy this post made me. I hope you and karma get to have lots and lots of love and cuddles and purring in your lap because he/she/it loves you,” a joyful fan shared.
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Concert Film Becomes Highest-Grossing Film In North America
Hargitay’s sweet gesture came after it was revealed that Swift’s concert film would be available on demand for home viewing.
The “Taylor Swift: Eras Tour” movie made history during its limited run in AMC theaters, becoming the highest-grossing concert film in North America.
Swift, who self-financed the film, achieved the remarkable feat of surpassing $100 million domestically, making it the first independently released film to achieve this milestone in just two weekends in a decade.
The film, filmed at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, has grossed over $165 million in the U.S. The extended version will include three additional songs, leaving only two from the original setlists still absent: “Cardigan” and “No Body, No Crime.”
