After 11 years of operation in 2014, Elizabeth Holmes and her blood testing firm gained recognition all around the world. After Thenaros was valued at an estimated $9 billion in 2015, its founder became the nation’s youngest and richest self-made billionaire woman. She eventually achieved the billionaire status she had dreamed of as a child.

But by the end of 2015, Theranos and its diagnostic tools became the subject of a scandal. The controversy gained national notice after several pieces about it were published in The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.

Before the collapse of Theranos, she was named Times magazine’s “Time 100 most influential people.” She was also recognized by Forbes. But, in 2016, she was featured in an article titled “The World’s 19 Most Disappointing Leaders” by the business magazine Fortune.

In 2016, Theranos received a notice from CMS stating that the company had failed to provide adequate information and documentation. In March 2018, Holmes and Ramesh (“Sunny”) Balwani, the former president of Theranos, were accused by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of defrauding investors out of more than $700 million by displaying a fake product.

However, in June 2018, Holmes and Balwani were both charged with wire fraud by Federal Authorities. Holmes was found not accountable for defrauding the patients. Moreover, charges of conspiracy and wire fraud were brought against both Holmes and Balwani during the 2021–2021 federal court trial.

She was found guilty in January 2022 and may face up to 20 years in prison for her crimes, along with a $250,000 fine and restitution.

Following the release of the Hulu television series “The Dropout” in 2022, her name once more rose to prominence.

Elizabeth got married to the businessman and entrepreneur Billy Evans in 2019. Holmes and her husband, Billy Evans, are currently residing in the California Estate. Evans, who was raised in San Diego and comes from a wealthy family, first met Elizabeth in 2017 at a party.

Elizabeth was born to Christian Rasmus Holmes IV and Noel Anne. She attended school in Houston. Her father was a vice president at Eron, and her mother used to work as a Congressional committee staffer.

Elizabeth Holmes’s great, great, great grandfather was Charles Louis Fleischmann, the founder of Fleischmann’s Yeast, a Hungarian immigrant. Christian Holmes hails from Danish ancestry, whereas Elizabeth’s mother has French Canadian ancestry on her father’s side and was born in Georgia.

Elizabeth Holmes attended Stanford and studied chemical engineering in 2002. During her studies, she worked as a student researcher and laboratory assistant in the School of Engineering. In 2004, she dropped out of Stanford and started funding her consumer healthcare technology company with her tuition fees.

Balwani is an American businessman who previously worked as Chief Operating Officer at Theranos. It was a private healthcare company founded by his ex-girlfriend, Elizabeth Holmes.

Sunny Balwani was born in Pakistan, and later his whole family shifted to America. Before the relationship with Elizabeth Holmes, he was married to a Japanese artist, but they got divorced in 2002. At the age of 18, Holmes met Balwani for the first time.

They were in a romantic relationship, but their relationship was not disclosed to Thenaros investors. Balwani used to support day-to-day operations at Theranos. He joined the company in 2009.
