Early Beginnings

Bertuzzi’s journey to the NHL began when the Detroit Red Wings selected him as the 58th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. His potential was evident and on October 17, 2014, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Red Wings.

Before making his mark in the NHL, Bertuzzi honed his skills in the American Hockey League. He made his professional debut with the Grand Rapids Griffins on April 16, 2015, showcasing his determination and scoring his first professional goal early in his AHL career.

NHL Debut with Detroit Red Wings

On November 7, 2016, Tyler Bertuzzi received a call-up to the Detroit Red Wings realizing his dream of playing in the NHL. His debut came the next day, and he made an immediate impact showcasing his abilities both on offense and with physical play.

During the 2016-17 season, Bertuzzi continued to develop displaying impressive offensive prowess in the AHL. He recorded 12 goals and 25 assists in 48 games during the regular season and played a pivotal role in the Griffins’ Calder Cup victory. His outstanding performance earned him the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs.

Establishing himself in the NHL

Tyler Bertuzzi’s journey with the Red Wings was marked by consistent growth and contributions. His first NHL goal, scored on January 14, 2018, was a milestone moment. Throughout the 2017-18 season, he continued to make significant strides tallying seven goals and 17 assists in 48 games.

Recognizing Bertuzzi’s potential, the Red Wings signed him to contract extensions solidifying his place in the team. He achieved a remarkable feat in April 2019 by becoming the first Detroit player to record four consecutive three-point games since Steve Yzerman in 1992-93, a testament to his offensive abilities.

Despite his achievements, Bertuzzi faced adversity, including injuries and surgery. In the pandemic-affected 2020-21 season, he battled a back injury that required surgery. However, his determination remained unwavering.

Toronto Maple Leafs

In March 2023, Bertuzzi embarked on a new chapter in his career, joining the Boston Bruins. This trademarked a significant change and he contributed to the Bruins’ campaign. Later, in July 2023, he signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs adding a new dimension to his career.
