Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Isaiah Bond became the player on the team to enter the transfer portal following former head coach Nick Saban’s retirement.

Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday on after 17 years as head coach of the Crimson Tide.

Alabama also witnessed five-star recruit wide receiver Ryan Williams decommit from the school immediately after Saban’s retirement.

Bond potential loss will sting Alabama’s offense much more however, due to the fact that he finished this season second on the team in receiving yards after ending the year with 668.

He also recorded 48 receptions and four touchdowns during his sophomore campaign.

Bond appears to be quickly taking advantage of the NCAA rule that allows players a 30-day window to enter the transfer portal following the departure of their head coach without receiving a penalty and retaining immediate eligibility to play for a new team.

Although Bond putting his name in the transfer portal does not ensure that he will transfer from Alabama, it does announce his intentions of doing so and allow him to communicate with other coaches without penalty.

If Bond decides to remove his name from the portal and remain with the Crimson Tide he would likely be one of the featured parts in new head coach Kalen DeBoer’s offense.

Five-star recruit Ryan Williams also decommitted from the Crimson Tide

Alabama also saw five-star WR Ryan Williams recommit from the school after the Saban news

Williams on the other hand is expected to commit to playing for a different school before the recruitment period ends on ‘National Signing Day’ at the end of February.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Williams is the No. 9 overall recruit in the 2024 class and the third-best receiver in the nation.

Williams had been committed to Alabama since October 2022 and was seen as a major coup for Saban to bring into the fold due to being an in-state prospect and an Auburn legacy – his father Ryan Williams Sr. played for the Tigers in the late 2000s.

Unlike most heavily recruited college football prospects, Williams did not sign his binding national letter of intent in December, and it would seem he is clearly grateful for that decision.
