Henry John Deutschendorf Jr., better known as John Denver, was born in Roswell, New Mexico, United States.

He was the son of Erma Louise Swope (1922–2010) and Captain Henry John “Dutch” Deutschendorf Sr. (1920–1982). His father was a United States Army Air Forces pilot stationed at Roswell Army Air Field.

John had a younger brother named Ron Deutschendorf. In his 1994 autobiography, Take Me Home; he described himself as the eldest son of a family shaped by a stern father unable to show his love for his children.

Since Henry was in the military and moved his family often, it was difficult for John to make friends and fit in with other kids his age.

John had been married twice and had three children, Zachary, Anna, and Jesse.

His first marriage was in 1967 to Annie Martell of St. Peter, Minnesota, who was the subject of his song Annie’s Song.

John and Annie adopted a son, Zachary John, and a daughter, Anna Kate, who, John said, were “meant to be” theirs.

The couple ultimately divorced in 1982. In a 1983 interview, John said career demands drove them apart, whereas Annie shared they were too young to deal with the former’s sudden success. 

John later married Australian actress Cassandra Delaney in 1988 after a two-year relationship. The pair had a daughter, Jesse Belle, before they divorced in 1993.

John, an avid pilot, died in a single-fatality crash in 1997 at age 53.

Bob Denver Family Tree Explored

Bob Denver was born in New Rochelle, New York, and later raised in Brownwood, Texas. He was the son of Arthur L. Denver, an accountant, and Marion Denver. 

Soon after his birth, the Denver family moved to Brownwood, Texas, where he graduated from Brownwood High School in 1953. Bob had one sibling: a sister named Helen Marie (Denver) Goggans.

Bob was married four times, with his wives including Maggie Ryan (1960–1966), Jean Webber (1967–1970), Carole Abrahams (1972–1975), and Dreama Perry (1979-2005).

He fathered four children, sons Patrick and Colin and daughters Megan and Emily.

Bob died on September 2, 2005, aged 70, from health complications, including pneumonia.
