However, the midfielder put talk behind him as he starred in Benfica’s 2-0 Portuguese Cup win against Varzim on Tuesday.

As well as putting in a classy performance, the 21-year-old netted the second goal of the game before heading off to celebrate with their supporters.

Along with patting the Benfica badge on his shirt, Fernandez also clearly gestured that he was staying with the club, much to the delight of his club’s fans.

The celebration will go a long way to silencing speculation over his future amid links to the Premier League.

Chelsea have been in talks over a £106million deal to sign Fernandez, however despite reports to the contrary, no deal was agreed for the superstar.

With Benfica unhappy at ‘disrespectful’ interest from the Blues, the Portuguese side have made their stance very clear.

Benfica boss Roger Schmidt also ruled out a move away for Fernandez during a press conference on Monday.

Schmidt said: “The issue with Enzo is closed, there is no issue anymore.

“He’s our player, he’s in a very good condition, he’s training well, he’s happy, so he’s part of the squad and a key player.

“I think I’ve already said everything about him.”
