University of Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops confirmed that he will be staying in Lexington after being linked to the coaching vacancy at Texas A&M.

Following Saturday’s 38-31 win over Louisville, Stoops acknowledged the speculations on social media without naming the suitor.

‘I know there’s been much speculation about me and my job situation the last couple of days,’ Stoops said on X (formerly Twitter). ‘It’s true I was contacted about a potential opportunity this weekend, but after celebrating a big win against our rivals with players I love like family, I knew in my heart I couldn’t leave the University of Kentucky right now.’

Stoops went on to praise the school and its fans, reiterating his desire to stay.

‘I have a great job at a place I love, and I get to work with the best administration and greatest fan base in college football right where I’m at. I’m excited to say I’m a Wildcat!’

Texas A&M fired former head coach Jimbo Fisher on November 12. With Fishers’ lucrative contract still active with eight years remaining, Texas A&M will be responsible for a record-breaking $75million buyout.

While the school has actively been searching for Fisher’s replacement, sources told ESPN that Texas A&M will not be hiring Stoops.

Defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson stepped up as the interim coach since Fisher’s dismissal and is also widely considered to be a candidate for the position.

Since taking the baton with two games remaining, Robinson led the Aggies to a 38-10 win over Abilene Christian before losing the final game, 42-30, to LSU.

In his tenth season of coaching the Wildcats, Stoops has led his team to a 7-5 (4-4 SEC) record, taking them to a bowl game for a school-record eighth straight year.

With a career record of 73-64, Stoops is the winningest coach in Kentucky football history.

Stoops is currently under contract with the Wildcats through the 2031 season.
