Dillian Whyte ‘intends to fight Tyson Fury over rescheduling bout with Otto Wallin’ as he insists it is ‘common sense’ after waiting over 600 days for his title shot

  • Dillian Whyte had to withdraw from his fight against Otto Wallin next weekend
  • Whyte suffered a shoulder injury while preparing for the bout in Portugal
  • Wallin’s promoter, Dmitriy Salita, hopes Whyte will recover and reschedule
  • But Eddie Hearn insists the 33-year-old is not contractually obligated to do so

Dillian Whyte has said he intends to fight Tyson Fury next after his bout with Otto Wallin was cancelled.

The Body Snatcher was set to meet Wallin in the ring next weekend but Whyte was forced to pull out after picking up a shoulder injury in training.

After Whyte’s WBC ‘interim’ belt defence against Wallin was announced, the WBC ruled that Fury must defend against the ‘interim’ champion next, unless he is able to agree an undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk within 30 days.

With Usyk obliged to rematch Anthony Joshua, an undisputed fight is off the table leaving the door open for Whyte to take a shot at Fury.

The Brixton fighter has waited over 600 days for his title shot – he maintains that he must fight Fury next and that the WBC must compel the Gypsy King to face him.

Wallin has now called on an independent doctor to prove Whyte is injured and admitted he was frustrated as he was desperate to step into the ring with the ‘Body Snatcher’.

Wallin’s promoter, Dmitriy Salita, hopes Whyte can make a full recovery and reschedule the fight but Eddie Hearn insists he is not contractually obligated to do so.

When asked if he would take the Fury fight over rescheduling the bout with Wallin, Whyte told talkSPORT: ‘Yeah of course.

‘Fury’s got the world title and that’s what I’ve been waiting for, that’s what I’ve worked for.

‘I don’t even know how much sanctioning fees I’ve paid.

‘I could’ve easily abandoned this route and gone down another route years ago, but I’ve waited and I’ve waited and I’ve waited.

‘So what am I gonna do? Fight Otto Wallin or fight Tyson Fury, what are you gonna do? It’s common sense.

‘That’s for me and his team to sort out at the end of the day.

‘We don’t know what Tyson Fury is going to do. He might just tomorrow say “Yeah, that’s it. I’m done”

‘He might go missing. He might disappear.

‘We were ready before this fight. He’s pulled out of two fights with me before.

The Body Snatcher said it was ‘common sense’ to take the Fury fight over rescheduling Wallin

‘Like I said, I’m not scared of no-one. I wanted to fight.

‘I think they’re gonna mandate me vs Tyson Fury, they’ve basically said it already.

‘It’s already been mandated really, so we don’t need to wait…

‘I want it to be in the UK man, that’s a UK fight.

‘Vegas is great, I’d love to go to Vegas and fight, but that’s a British fight.

‘That’s the biggest all-British heavyweight title fight since Lennox Lewis vs Frank Bruno.’

It remains to be seen whether the fight with Wallin will be rearranged and how long Whyte will be sidelined with his injury.
