Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow with Armando Broja reportedly set to miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

The Blues are claimed to now accelerate their plans to bring in a new striker in January to compete with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz up top.

Albania international Broja suffered his knee injury in the recent 1-0 friendly defeat to Aston Villa in Dubai.

He left the pitch on a stretcher with the 21-year-old pictured screaming in agony on the floor,.

Speaking immediately after the match on his knock, boss Graham Potter said: “It doesn’t look positive at the moment.

“But it is too early to say. Fingers crossed, but it is an awkward one.”

However in a blow for both the club and the player, the Evening Standard has declared that Broja is ‘expected’ to be out until next season.

It has been said that he will need surgery to fix his ACL injury and he will soon begin a rehabilitation programme.

His absence in the team will see Chelsea dip into the winter transfer market in the New Year.

Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Chelsea are prepared to sign a new striker in January.

“It was already one of the possibilities discussed in the last months, now becoming concrete after Armando Broja ACL injury.

“Talks will take place to find the best opportunity on the market, Chelsea will be on it.”

Chelsea could decide to bring forward their move for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku.

The west London outfit are believed to be close to striking a £52million agreement for next summer, but they may now look to snap him up in the New Year instead.

Alternatively, Chelsea could look to bring Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge, with Spanish media naming the Blues as a possible destination for the wantaway Atletico Madrid man.

Borussia Dortmund starlet Youssoufa Moukoko has also emerged as a possible target, though it is unlikely he will depart Germany midway through the season.

And it remains to be seen whether Chelsea rekindle their interest in Cristiano Ronaldo, with the 37-year-old now a free agent after parting ways with Manchester United.
