Chris Eubank Jr’s team are considering an APPEAL to the BBBOfC against Liam Smith for an alleged use of the elbow in the combination that floored the 33-year-old in Saturday’s blockbuster middleweight showdown

Chris Eubank’s representatives are weighing up an appeal to the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBOfC), after an alleged elbow from Liam Smith was used in his knockout victory over the 33-year-old.

The pair met at the Manchester AO Arena on Saturday, with Smith earning a fourth-round stoppage to take the fight, but Eubank’s promoters – Wasserland Boxing – have confirmed they are considering appealing the outcome.

Fans had previously claimed the Liverpudlian fighter’s fight-winning combination involved the ‘illegal use of an elbow’, in a fight that saw Eubank Jr reportedly subjected to ‘vile homophobic abuse ringside’.

But Kalle Sauerland of Wasserman Boxing stated that the promoters are now considering launching an appeal due to the alleged elbow.

‘We are looking at it,’ said Sauerland, when asked by Sky Sports about the possibility of a potential appeal.

Although Smith ultimately earned the stoppage through a lethal combination which culminated in a vicious uppercut, footage appeared to show Eubank Jr caught with a stray elbow as his opponent went for a left hook.

Eubank Jr. catches the elbow to the right side of his head, and with his head held low avoids a right cross from Smith before the uppercut landed square on his chin.

Another left hook saw Eubank fall to the canvas, which ultimately saw Smith come out victorious.

It is unclear whether contact with the elbow inflicted enough damage on the 33-year-old to decide the outcome of the fight, but

Eubank Jr himself had already described his opponent as a ‘dirty fighter’ ahead of their highly-anticipated bout.

He told ‘The Gloves Are Off’: ‘He is a dirty fighter. I like when I see guys doing the headbutting and the elbowing because that means that they’re not true and when the going gets tough, they look for ways out. They look for ways that they’re not supposed to use.

‘I like watching fighters and seeing them have to resort to dirty tactics because their skill level isn’t enough to get them through the fight so they need to start using their head and their elbows.’
