‘I LOVE Solskjaer… I think he did a good job and he needed more time’: Cristiano Ronaldo insists that Manchester United should NOT have sacked the Norwegian and replaced him with Ralf Rangnick

Cristiano Ronaldo has heaped praise on former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and claimed he ‘did a good job and needed more time’.

Ronaldo has hit the headlines over the past week after the release of his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.

Within the controversial sit-down with Morgan, Ronaldo slammed the current state of the club, along with heavily criticising United manager Erik ten Hag and former teammates including Gary Neville and Rooney.

However, he also discussed other several wide-ranging issues, including the topic of his former boss Solskjaer.

After Ronaldo signed last summer, with hopes that the Portuguese superstar would take United onto greater heights, the Norwegian was sacked after a poor start to the season.

United were lying in seventh place with 17 points from 12 games at the time, bringing an end to Solskjaer’s reign that lasted just under three years.

And in the first part of the interview released on Wednesday, Ronaldo hailed Solskjaer as a person and for the job he did.

‘I love Solskjaer. I think he was a top person,’ Ronaldo told Morgan on TalkTV.

‘Because what I keep inside my heart is the heart of the person, and for me Ole is a top person.

‘Coach? Of course, he didn’t look for what he wants. It’s hard to assume after Sir Alex Ferguson, but I think he did a good job for for sure and he needed more time.

‘But I have no doubts that he will be a good coach in the future. But it was a good experience. I was so pleased to work for him, even though it was a short period.’

Ronaldo also claimed that United should have given Solskjaer more time instead of bringing in Ralf Rangnick

Solskjaer left United with 91 wins from 168 games in charge, although under him the Red Devils were defeated on penalties in the Europa League final against Villarreal in 2021, meaning he failed to win any trophies while in charge of the club.

Ronaldo also slammed the decision to bring in Ralf Rangnick as Solskjaer’s replacement as he said he is ‘not even a coach’ and claimed he had ‘never even heard of him’ before arriving at Old Trafford.

He added: ‘No, they don’t (know what they are doing). They knew with the club, very well. But they don’t know the main dimension of the club inside, the history of the club.

‘Which is, for me, surprised me even more. Which is when you sack Ole Solskjaer, you should bring a top manager, not a sports director.’
