Why Is Hugh Freeze Leaving American Football Team: Was He Fired? Controversy Explained

Find out “Why Is Hugh Freeze Leaving American Football Team: Was He Fired?” Hugh Freeze’s resignation came after he admitted to personal misbehaviour, which caused uproar.

Hugh Freeze, the new football coach at Auburn, formerly worked for Ole Miss for five seasons, where he was instrumental in the Rebels’ ascent to national prominence.

He left Ole Miss, nevertheless, in July 2017 after an inquiry uncovered a pattern of the coach’s improper behaviour.

Freeze had a 34-15 record in his previous four seasons of playing for Liberty.

Freeze’s coaching career took off after years of success as a high school coach at Briarwood Christian, a private school in the outskirts of Memphis, Tennessee.

Hugh Freeze Controversy: What Did He Do?

In the two years before the resignation, Ole Miss received two Notice of Allegations letters from the NCAA regarding incidents on the field.

In the first, there were 13 alleged rule violations, nine of which were rated as Level I, the most severe category by the governing body.

A discussion between the University’s legal counsel and the lawyer for former Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt, who was suing the school, raised the possibility that Freeze’s use of a University phone to make at least 12 calls to an escort service off the field might be problematic.

Freeze said to ESPN that he doesn’t remember making that call. He declared that he thought it was essential to teach the young men on their team the lessons of his successes and failures, as well as the repercussions of each.

Former Briarcrest Christian students spoke to USA Today a week after Freeze left Ole Miss.

Inappropriate behavior was described by three women who attended the Memphis high school where Freeze was a coach and was portrayed in the film “The Blind Side.” Katie Dalmasso shared a tale about breaking the dress code by donning a Grateful Dead T-shirt. She claimed Freeze forced her to take off her shirt in his presence.

Is Hugh Freeze Fired?

Hugh Freeze, head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels football team, announced his resignation immediately before going into further detail at a press conference.

According to Dan Wolken of USA Today, Freeze called “a number associated with a female escort service” for one minute on a school-issued phone on Thursday. The call was revealed as a result of a federal lawsuit Houston Nutt, a former Ole Miss coach, filed against the University, alleging that it had broken the terms of his severance agreement.

According to Bjork, Freeze resigned after admitting the (personal) misconduct, according to reporter Brett McMurphy.

This happened after Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports reported on Thursday that Freeze’s job was “immediately jeopardized” due to “explosive new information” that had surfaced.

Was Hugh Freeze Leaving American Football Team?

In his four seasons as Liberty’s head coach, Freeze has guided the Flames to a 34-15 overall record and three bowl victories. Before that, Freeze coached Ole Miss for five seasons, twice defeating Alabama, capturing the Sugar Bowl, and leading the Rebels to consecutive seasons at No. 3 in the polls.

Surprisingly, he resigned on July 20, 2017, following the discovery of Freeze’s “pattern of personal misconduct” by an Ole Miss investigation.

Ross Bjork, the Ole Miss athletic director at the time, claimed that he would have used a “moral turpitude” clause in Freeze’s contract to terminate it if he had not resigned.

At the time, Freeze’s resignation was unrelated to a list of 21 NCAA allegations the University received in February, according to Jeffrey Vitter, the chancellor of Ole Miss at the time. If a program hired Freeze before November 30, 2018, he would have to serve a two-game conference suspension due to the NCAA investigation.
