There were fireworks in the talkSPORT studio on Monday morning as Simon Jordan and Saif Rubie clashed live on air.

Rubie became a well-known figure for his role in Bobby Duncan’s messy exit from Liverpool and subsequent explosive Twitter allegations and spat with Jamie Carragher.

The Reds vehemently denied his comments and he was subsequently suspended and fined by the FA.

Rubie works as an intermediary for a number of players, one of them being the now former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

He joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, leaving the Blues scrambling to sign big name centre-backs.

There were many reports about the amount of money Rudiger would be getting at the LaLiga club.

That was an issue Rubie wanted to challenge Simon Jordan on his comments in April.

He also wanted to correct the narrative around his exit.

Rubie claimed the defender was in fact keen to stay, but the old regime made little effort to keep him.

He also challenged the reports of the amount of money he would be getting, and that Real Madrid were offering was the lowest offer.

Real their full explosive exchange below:

SR: “This is one of the reasons I wanted to come here. Our honourable friend in front of us, Simon, in April he came on this show and made a comment about Rudiger’s situation and his deal.

“He said that Rudiger was being very greedy because he was getting paid a £10m signing on fee and his advisors were getting £10m to go wherever they were going.”

SJ: “Did I? Or did I repeat something that was written somewhere else?”

SR: “Let’s break it down. A £10m signing on fee is usually broken across the period of the contract, that’s four years, that’s £40,000-a-week.

“Number two, let’s hypothetically say, as you were making a comment on what you read, £10m was the fee you mentioned.

“Let’s say it is £10m to £15m, the transfer window has just finished.

“Antonio Rudiger has been one of the best, if not the best, defender in the world and Premier League.

“It made Carlo Ancelotti want to bring him to Real Madrid. What is the value of a top flight, top level centre half in the game?”

SJ: “I don’t know. I don’t know if you want to frame this conversation in the direction you want to take it or in the context I would most likely have given it.

“The context I would most likely have given it was to frame the opportunity and it was engineered by people like you, I suspect, that trade in the margins on the basis a free transfer would be more beneficial to the player than being attached to a club and signing a new contract.”

SR: “What if I told you Chelsea, and the old regime, basically made next to no effort to keep the player.

“At the time he was very happy to stay and potentially be the captain of the club. He was offered a contract that was half the amount Romelu Lukaku were earning.

“You are talking about trading in the margins.

SJ: “I would have said, in the context of the argument you are trying to bring me into, when talking about Antonio Rudiger and the club, I was clearly making the point the club didn’t want him.

“If they’d have wanted him then they would have done more. You have to get context.”

Jordan’s opinion about agents, player representatives and intermediaries in football has not changed

SR: “If they didn’t want him, then is the value of £10m a lot of money in the eyes of a club?”

SJ: “I can’t speak for them, can I? It’s not my bloody club.”

SR: “Listen, you owned a football club. If you were told you could have an asset worth £70m to £80m and you could get it for £10m to £15m, would you say that’s a good deal?”

SJ: “You would say that is a good deal. But context is everything. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
“With that in mind, clearly they didn’t value him at that.”

SR: “The new regime, who had to come and pick up the pieces of decisions that were made by the old regime.

“Things like letting the lad go to Crystal Palace, who was also a defender, letting another go for not a lot of money to AC Milan.

“When I spoke to the new regime, I said the old regime cost you £100m. Do you know what they said to me? More.”

Rubie was not happy with the talkSPORT pundit’s comments

He continued: “Let me confirm this, live on air, the Real Madrid deal was the smallest deal on offer.

“There was a club in England offering almost double the amount and a club in Europe doubling the amount.

“I’m not going to discuss the specifics. Everyone knows there was teams interested in this player. He was one of the best in the world.”

SJ: “So your point in all this is I’m wrong for saying he is greedy?”

SR: “No, your observation was wrong.”

SJ: “Your point in all this soliloquy is getting us the square root of nowhere, is that you want to make a point about me that my observation was wrong.”

SR: “Totally wrong.”

SJ: “I’m agreeing with you. I made an observation about a player getting a £10m signing, which you seem to think is not a significant amount of money, which probably isn’t in the la la land that you live in.

“Your point is, after 10 minutes, that you’ve corrected me when I said Antonio Rudiger was greedy? Job done then.

“I still think he’s greedy. I still think people like you are the worst thing upon it.”
