The 25-year-old has been without a club since departing the north london side this summer after 20 years with them.

The free agent is set to end his stay in England after being offered a four year contract by the Ligue 1 giants.

The five-time England international repeatedly outlined his desire to play in midfield instead before departing, initially on loan.

Maitland-Niles has had loan spells at West Brom, Roma and Southampton over the past three seasons, racking up 26 appearances for the Saints, who got relegated last term.

Lyone have already strengthened this summer with the signings of Clinton Mata, Skelly Alvero and Duje Caleta-Car after finishing seventh in the league last season.

A move to the French side will see Maitland-Niles reunite with former Arsenal team-mate Alexandre Lacazette.
