Scunthorpe United’s social media accounts have been deactivated after the club’s chairman allegedly clashed with supporters.

Both the club’s Facebook and X, formerly Twitter, accounts became inactive on Tuesday morning amid growing concern for the non-league side.

David Hilton, who bought Scunthorpe in January, announced he was putting the club up for sale in a statement last week, revealing it was ‘available to purchase to the right people’.

In his statement, the Scunthorpe chairman urged that the National League North side had chalked up a ‘significant amount of debt’ and were also locked in ‘ongoing legal battles costing thousands each month’.

Hilton, who has become an unpopular figure at Glanford Park since his takeover, has controversially attempted to ban dissenting fans from the stadium this week.

The creators of the Iron Bru podcast – which has long been critical of Hilton and his predecessor Peter Swann – took to social media on Monday to show they had been banned from Glanford Park via email.

Mail Sport has approached both Scunthorpe and Hilton for comment.
