Jose Mourinho has commented on Bournemouth and Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo, saying ‘unfortunately he is staying with us’.

The Roma boss was again discussing speculation surrounding the Italian winger, who has been linked with a move away for much of the January window.

Both Spurs and fellow Premier League outfit Bournemouth have reportedly been in talks with Roma and the player’s agent, along with reigning Serie A champions AC Milan.

However, a move in the closing days of the window is looking unlikely, much to Mourinho’s disappointment.

“Zaniolo told me he doesn’t want to play for us anymore, that he doesn’t want to train with the team,” he said.

“So that’s why I say that he will unfortunately stay with us after all.”

Zaniolo, an 11 time capped Italy international, was integral to Mourinho’s debut season in Rome, scoring crucial goals in the team’s Europa Conference League win.

The 23-year-old scored the winning goal in the final against Feyenoord, as well as a hat-trick in the quarter-finals against Bodo/Glimt.

This season he’s featured in 15 of Roma’s 17 games, scoring two goals, but relations with the club and manager seem to have quickly deteriorated.

Last time out, in a 2-0 league win over Spezia, Zaniolo was left out of the squad, causing much anger among fans.

A banner installed outside of the coliseum in Rome read: “Traitor and  s*** without honour”.

Confirming Zaniolo again would be absent for an upcoming fixture against Napoli, Mourinho added: “Nicolo is not part of the Napoli project. I don’t want to talk about Zaniolo anymore.”
