Just because “Diverged” is the poorest-rated episode of “The Walking Dead” doesn’t mean all fans consider the storyline to be a huge mistake. In fact, one Redditor looked past the seemingly-filler content and found that it offers a deeper look into Daryl and Carol’s friendship. “It shows how their everyday lives have been affected by each other, and any other day when they aren’t together there are some obstacles they have to face separate from each other,” they explained.
Another user, u/jungle_penguins, understands why fans think it’s the worst in the series, but they also see the point the original poster is trying to make. Despite the frustration of watching Daryl and Carol struggle to do one task each, “Diverged” does manage to show just how much Daryl and Carol mean to one another, and being away from each other is difficult, no matter what they’re doing. Though it does little to advance the plot, it’s hard to deny that these fan favorite characters are huge parts of each other’s lives, and it makes sense that they would face some struggles during their separation.
