Doyle can’t catch a break

The midfielder was pelted by a series of bottles while he was taking a corner next to the Baggies fans. It’s lucky their aim was poor.

West Brom 0-1 Wolves

Fear every time Neto touches the ball

It’s quite a sight to behold. The winger has absolutely no defensive responsibilities so is always on hand on the counter.

On this ocassion he ran through, attracting two West Brom defenders who were scared of touching him.

Wolves are enjoying another period of dominance here. Can they find the second?

West Brom 0-1 Wolves

The West Brom skipper came in with an crunching late tackle on Doyle. The Man City loanee lay stricken on the turf for a few minutes holding his kneww.

He’ll be fine to continue but still, that was a little naughty from the 29-year-old.

West Brom 0-1 Wolves

Mowatt puts in a wonderful cross to the back post where Wallace headed across goal to Thomas-Asante.

The striker looked nailed on to tap the ball in but Kilman covered wonderfully to keep his side in front.

West Brom 0-1 Wolves

Lemina glances a header on goal

wolves are committing a lot of players forward to their attack here, it’s a cautious start. Lemina was one of only two Wolves players in the box as a delivery came in from the right.

He did all he could to direct it on goal but it was one Griffiths could have claimed with his eyes shut.

West Brom 0-1 Wolves

Swift start from the home team

Like the first-half, West Brom are right at it to begin the period. Swift picks up the ball in the middle of the Wolves half and drives forward before deciding on a shot from range.

His attempt was well hit but was comfortable for Sa in goal.

West Brom 0-1 Wolves

Cliche alert, the next goal is massive.

Collomosse Corner

Wallace, Kilman and Dawson all get a special mention, while Mowatt shoudl have done better from where Collomosse was sitting.

Baggies edged the first half, according to stats

Unfortunately for West Brom fans, there’s only one statistic that counts. The home side had more shots in the first half, more shots on goal, touches in the opposition’s box and a higher xG.

Solid celebrations indeed

The visiting fans absolutely loving Neto’s goal which gave them a first-half lead against the Baggies.

HT: West Brom 0-1 Wolves

Difficult to argue with the scoreline

It’s not that West Brom have been bad or that Wolves have been especially impressive, their superior quality has been telling in the first 45.

The Baggies started at quite a pace and had a couple of chances to get their noses in front. But Gary O’Neil’s side navigated that tricky spell brilliantly before growing into the tie and eventually getting the breakthrough.

Neto is class and when you have someone in your team with the ability to produce moments of quality, you’ll end up getting resuts in games.

West Brom 0-1 Wolves

West Brom look short of confidence

The home side are looking a little shellshocked at the minute. The goal cme at an awful time for them. They started well so can they ut the presure of the Premier League side again?

WATCH! Pedro Neto’s stunning opener for Wolves

A quality goal from a quality player back to his best.

GOAL! West Brom 0-1 Wolves (Neto)

More magic from Pedro Neto

Wolves’ star man gives the visitors the lead, the flares are off and the away crowd are in great voice.

It was a goal of real quality from the winger, who ran clear of the defence before cuting inside and finiding the corner.

Cannonball Corby

Make sure you’re following our very own Tom Collomosse, who is at the Hawthorns. He provides all the tactical info!

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

A lovely passage of play down the Wolves left nearly opens the scoing. Doherty to Cunha, who then fired into the box where Bartley stretched to clear.

The visitors didn’t trouble the goal – or add to their touches in the area tally – from the resulting corners.

Who’s the happier manager?

Corberan but only just. His time have managed to get through the first 30 minutes without conceding, even though they’ve had the better chances.

Wolves on the otherhand have had the majority of the ball but are struggling to create clear chances. They’ve only had three touches in West Brom box.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

Scramble in the Wolves box

Furlong’s Delapesque throw in causes all sorts of carnage in the Wolves area. The vistors produce at least three blocks in the melee before they’re able to clear the ball away.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

What a chance for the Baggies

Brilliant play from Wallace on the right, who turned Toti inside out before finding Swift in the centre. The striker did his own version of the move before getting a shot off that hit Dawson.

There were cries of hanball but the referee only pointed for a corner kick. There’s no VAR, thank god.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

Doherty endeavour wins a corner

More time, more control for the Premier League side. Doherty wins a corner kick after running with the ball into the West Brom box.

The visitors couldn’t take advantage of the set-piece but it more signs that the tie is very one-sided at the moment.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

We know the atmosphere is fierce among the fans but we’ve got our first indication of how up for it the players are. It wasn’t much but Cunha had a little go Mowatt there after the West Brom midfielder argued against the award of a corner.

Wolves have just started to control this one now. Cunha followed his stern words with anotehr wasted attempted.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

Cunha has Wolves’ first attempt

It wasn’t a particularly good one to be honest. The Wolves striker decided to try his luck from about 30 yards but dragged his effort wide of the post.

I think Griffiths dived to make him feel better about the strike.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

The Baggies have squandered another one. It’s Wallace this time who nods a header into the grateful hands of Sa from close range.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

The striker really should have done better with a free header from eight yards. He ghosted between Wolves’ defence as he received a wonderful cross from the right.

The forward got his timing all wrong though and headed it into the ground allowing Sa to easily collect.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

Wolves are in the thick of it

They may have wrestled a bit of control back from the hosts but there has been no et up from the fans.

It’s quite something. I’ve never heard the Hawthorns in such voice.

Gary O’Neil’s side have begun to build -up from the back and a finding a bit of joy down the flanks. Nothing for the keeper to worry about just yet.

West Brom 0-0 Wolves

Super quick start from West Brom

It’s been a ferocious start from the home side. The crowd are up and the team is getting right into Wolves.

The Baggies forced a corner in the opening minute and have been on the front foot since the first whistle.

And we’re off

West Brom get the action underway

Players are out onto the pitch

It’s almost time! The starters have taken to the field and into the unbelievable atmosphere at the Hawthorns.

Kick-off is just moments away.

Someone’s a fan of Wallace

This is giving me Sky Sports player cam vibes. Anyone remember that? no, just me?

Anyhow, Baggies skipper Jed Wallace leads his team today against…his old side. The 29-year-old spent two years at Molineux with Wolves between 2015 and 2017.

Time for our warm-up photo fix

There’s less than 15 minutes left to go until the fixture gets underway. Wolves stars are out onto the pitch putting in the work before the battle commences.

Look away Wolves fans

Is it time to atone for this humbling? Back in 2012 West Brom inflicted a 5-1 defeat on their rivals, at Molineux, for good measure.

Some vintage Barclays players were on show that day. This is the last meeting of the sides with fans present.

Excitement or dread?

It’s going to be one hell of an atmosphere at the Hawthorns. From the look on some of those faces, is it excitement or dread?

Wolves have a pretty horrible record in this game but they’ll surely have too much for the Baggies today, right?

Corberan insists he understands the importance of the fixture

The Spanish coach is going well in his first full season at the club. West Brom fifth in the Championship, at the head of a tight pack chasing two play-off spots.

his game means a lot to us. It means a lot to our fans and what is important to them, is always important for us.

To represent West Bromwich Albion in this special game, it means a lot to us all. We’re all really looking forward to it.

From the first moment when the draw was made and we had the possibility to play Wolves, it was easy to see how important the game is for both clubs and how important it is for our fans.

Baggies bragging rights

  • The first meeting of the sides was in the FA Cup in January 1886.
  • West Brom are unbeaten in their last four games against Wolves dating back to a 2-0 win 2011.
  • Wolves have not won at the Hawthorns since 1989 when the two sides met back in the old second division.
  • Wolves’ last win in the FA Cup against the Baggies came in 1949.

Wolves players arriving at the ground

Here are the away players arriving at the ground earlier for today’s huge game. Wolves come here in superb form, unbeaten in their last six and well clear of the drop zone in 11th place in the Premier League.

Why so early?

For those unaware, this game can get pretty fiesty. As a result, the decision was taken to host the fixture at the unusual time of 11:45.

There’s a sizeable police presence at the Hawthorns this morning, as you can see below.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: ‘The local derby between WBA and Wolves will be attended by a large number of supporters of both teams and we want to ensure everyone enjoys the match.

‘There will be large numbers of supporters meeting up and travelling from various locations across the Black Country and further afield to The Hawthorns, and we are working to make sure this happens smoothly and with as little disruption as possible to transport pubs and bars, and local residents.’

Wolves team news

Only one change for Wolves as Gary O’Neil names a very strong side. Bellegardes come into the fray, having missed the goalless draw against Brighton on Monday.

I don’t think it would have gone down well with the Wolves fans if he had massively rotated his side.

West Brom team news

Corberan makes two changes from the team that lost 2-0 to Norwich last weekend, bringing in Griffiths and Chalobah for Palmer and Rach.

A bit of context before we begin

A sense of unease still stalks West Bromwich Albion as they look forward to renewing one of English football’s great rivalries against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

For much of the last three years, supporters have feared for Albion’s very existence. Yet while this 146-year-old club are not out of danger yet, there is growing optimism that Albion will be sold in the coming weeks to close one of the most troubling chapters in their modern history.

US businessman Shilen Patel is thought to be the front-runner to take control. Until the deal is done, though, some doubt and worry remains.

It’s worth getting up early for

Good morning, yes it really is morning, and welcome to Mail Sport’s coverage of the intense, often heated and always thrilling Black Country derby.

It’s a mouth-watering FA Cup fourth round clash between West Brom and Wolves at the Hawthorns and we’ll be here to bring you all the news and updates ahead of the 11:45 Kick off.

The Midlands rivals last faced off in the Premier League almost three years. Since then, the Baggies have been relegated, though they look in good shape to return to the top-flight under Carlos Corberan.

Wolves also arrived in confident form but they’ll be well aware of the fact that form goes out of the window in a derby.

I can’t wait for this one!
