Malin Andersson has spoken out after checking into a £12,000 rehab clinic to battle drink and drug abuse.

The former Love Island star, 31, who rose to fame on the second series of the show in 2016, signed up for a three-week programme after losing control after self-medicating following a series of personal tragedies.

Television personality Malin lost her baby daughter Consy in January 2019 when she died a month after she was born, just weeks after Malin’s mother Consy-Gloria died following a battle with cancer.

Reality star Malin welcomed another daughter in January 2022 but split from the baby’s father Jared soon after she arrived.

Malin has also lost her father to cancer, battled eating disorders, lost friends to suicide and survived domestic abuse.

Following her split from her ex Jared in 2022, Malin says her drink and drug use spiralled out of control and he suggested she seek help.

Despite not thinking she had a problem at first, Malin checked herself into a recovery programme.

She told The Sun: ‘I don’t drink every day. I don’t wake up and want to drink. Sometimes I can go two months without it. But I was using alcohol and drugs as a coping mechanism.’

On how much she drunk, she explained: ‘I would drink a lot. It could be three bottles of wine, or champagne, or whatever, then shots…

‘Drugs weren’t involved all the time, but they were if I was with the wrong crowd.

‘Then I’d go back to normal and that would last for a few weeks – then the cycle would be repeated again.’

Malin said she felt ‘ashamed and guilty’ of the position in which she found herself, adding that going to rehab sounded ‘nuts’.

She said alcohol became a crutch and she decided to check into a facility for three weeks of intensive therapy.

Malin told how she found it extremely difficult to be away from her daughter Xaya for the three weeks but insisted it was the right thing to do.

The TV star told in December last year how she was struggling with her health.

She told her social media followers that she was feeling lonely as she struggled to sleep with a health complaint.

While posing with no makeup and messy hair, the star shared the reality of being a mother as she sat on her bed, exhausted, after battling with her child to bed.

Malin has spent the last year focusing on her health and ‘internal healing’, after welcoming her daughter, Xaya.

In the very honest post, she looked away from the camera as she smiled sarcastically in her red, white and green reindeer pyjamas as she revealed she has been suffering from a hernia.

She captioned the post: ‘Wow look at that face.

‘Tired Ma with a hurting hernia.

‘I am posting on instagram at 3-40am so see if there are any mums up. it can feel sooooooooo lonely especially in the middle of the night. Throw Christmas into the mix with lack of sleep and Hermione the hernia it’s a no brainer.

‘So it took Xaya 2 hours to get to sleep.. and now she’s been up since 3am screaming to sleep in my bed. Now she’s in my bed because I’m so tired and have work to do tomorrow she isn’t sleeping she’s finding it so funny.

‘Is this a sleep regression or what the heck is it feel like I’ve gone back in time she’s 2 next month.

‘Anyways this one’s for my Mumma’s. I see you. The beauty I take from this is the gratitude to have Xaya in my life – especially over a period where grief hits me HARD!

‘Love you all x.’

Her followers flooded her comments with support and stories of their own as parents from across the country sympathised with the doting mother.

One fan commented: ‘I feel you. Mine is 2 next month and the last 2 weeks he’s been so bad at going down for a nap and nighttime. We sleep trained before so he was really good at going down but this regression has by far been the worst.

‘2 weeks in and apparently this one can last up to 6 weeks… he went down at 7pm lash night after falling asleep during his milk (wouldn’t nap during the day) then was awake at 10pm for an hour and then 2am for an half hour. It’s so hard.

‘We both work FT and we’ve tried to co sleep but we can’t do it. I feel you but remember this will pass xxxx’

Another wrote: ‘Never have to justify bringing little one into bed. Work or no work the next day, always do what you have to do to get through. Mummyhood is hard. Single-mummyhood is hard. We tend to go into justification mode because society judges. It’s hard not to. All that matters, though, is you and your little one.

‘And don’t spend too long worrying about whether it’s regression or what. They’re humans and go through phases. Each phase passes and you will both be fine. Again, just do what you need to get through.’

The update came after the TV personality went silent for weeks after she announced she was having a mammogram on her right breast.

Malin has since embarked on a healthy lifestyle and has spoken about the brutal trolling she received on Instagram following her recent weight loss, despite being clear about doing it healthily and feeling better than ever.

She recalled that she has ‘never known anything like it’ since making a healthy lifestyle change.
