Where to Watch Elizabeth Holmes Documentary ‘The Inventor: Out for Blood’
As controversial businesswoman Elizabeth Holmes’ trial against the US government gets underway, you may find yourself curious about the scandal that started it all. One of the best ways to get informed is to watch HBO’s Holmes-centric 2019 documentary The Inventor: Out for Blood, but where is the film streaming? Here’s what to know.
Back in 2014, Holmes and her company, Theranos, promised a revolution in blood testing, claiming patients could get results from over 200 medical tests through a drop of blood alone. But Holmes went from being the youngest self-made billionaire to a Silicon Valley outcast when it was revealed her testing machine — nicknamed “Edison” — wasn’t remotely ready, although Holmes had already secured hundreds of millions of dollars worth of financing for it.
The scandal led to Holmes being under federal indictment for fraud, and Alex Gibney’s documentary details exactly how she got to where she is now.
Here’s everything you need to know about where you can stream The Inventor: Out for Blood.
Amanda Seyfried will replace Kate McKinnon in Hulu’s upcoming series, The Dropout. It was announced in 2019 that McKinnon would executive produce and star in the series based on the ABC News/ABC Radio’s podcast of the same name, which tells the story of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos. McKinnon left the limited series for unspecified reasons back in February.
Holmes, a Stanford dropout, founded a medical testing company in the early 2000s and, thanks to her savvy sales pitches, she obtained millions of dollars in funding, and assembled a high profile board of directors, leading her to become one of the world’s youngest woman billionaires. Her company and reputation went down in flames in 2018, though, when it was discovered that the entire premise of her business was based on fraudulent medical testing technology. Holmes is currently awaiting trial for conspiracy and wire fraud with the intent to defraud the company’s investors.
Seyfried, who has starred in Mean Girls and the Mamma Mia! films, is currently nominated for an Oscar for her work in Mank. She will also produce the Hulu series along with Liz Meriwether, The Dropout podcast host Rebecca Jarvis and its producers, Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson. Production is scheduled to begin this summer. Though she has bowed out of this project, SNL star McKinnon is still set to play Carole Baskin, best known as the nemesis of the Tiger King himself, Joe Exotic, in an upcoming limited series based on the podcast, Joe Exotic.
