Just prior to his sophomore year of high school, Sasha came out as transgender and underwent his transition during that period.

He experienced bullying and a lack of support from the administration of his school, but with the help of his close friends and family, he was eventually able to find acceptance and confidence.

There have only been three instances of transgender performers competing on The Voice, and Sasha’s appearance was one of them.

Sasha hoped that by sharing his personal story, other young transgender people would be encouraged and given representation. The presentation of Sasha’s gender identity in the show was not the main focus, but rather one facet of who he is.

The Voice contestant Sasha Allen, who was assigned female at birth, struggled as a child with his identity because he always felt male.

He has been candid about his relationship with his girlfriend, Brynn, and has talked about subjects like post-operative depression.

‘The Voice’ Angel Bonilla And Sasha Allen

Two transgender competitors who have participated in The Voice singing competition are Angel Bonilla and Sasha Allen. After Angel Bonilla performed Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down,” in 2018, she became the first contestant on the show to identify as transgender.

Bonilla moved on to the next round and joined Adam Levine’s squad. Judges Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson were mesmerized by 19-year-old transgender teen Sasha Allen’s father-son duet of John Denver’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane” in 2022. Allen disclosed that although he was born a woman, he had never felt at ease.
