He was born in the year 1925 in Abbeville, Alabama. His great-grandfathers were Scots-Irish and he also has African Ancestry.

McCauley is the eldest child of Anderson and Louisa McCauley. He had obtained skills in carpentry and stonemasonry from his father.

Rosa Parks was born to their parents;  James McCauley and his wife Leona McCauley.

James met his future wife Leona Edwards in Alabama. Back, then he was visiting his sister Addie in Pine Level.

After love at first sight, Park’s parents married on April 12, 1912, at Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Pine Level.

Rosa’s mother, Leona was born the youngest child of Sylvester and Rose Edwards. She had attended the Payne University in Selma.

James and Leona McCauley went to Tuskegee, Alabama, shortly after their marriage. Together they found jobs in Macon County building houses.

By profession, Rosa Park’s mother was a teacher, however, after getting pregnant she had to leave her job.

Leona wished James to teach at the Tuskegee Institute. But, preferring the contract job was more profitable for running the family.

Rosa Parks received her name from her grandmother. Her birthday is on February 4, 1913, and she was born to a diverse group of families.

Parks belongs to a mixed race; her great-grandfathers were Scots-Irish and also has African Ancestry.

Similarly, one of her great-grandmothers was a slave who was half-Native American.

James McCauley’s father and Park’s grandad, Anderson McCauley was born in Georgia and is the child of Ghiogee and Charles McCauley.

Among Rosa’s great-grandparents, Ghiogee was creek Indian, while Charles was a soldier of Irish and Cherokee descent.

It is said that  Anderson McCauley and his wife Louisa were parents of 17 children. Only ten of their children had survived to adulthood.

Talking about Parks’ siblings, she has a brother named Sylvester James McCauley. He served in the Army in the European and Pacific theaters.
