An injured soldier identifies himself as Leonid Paktishev, the head of a sniper team based in the Rostov region, in one of the videos posted early Sunday morning on the Telegram channel “Find Your Own”, put up by Ukraine’s interior ministry.
The Guardian spoke to three family members who confirmed Paktishev’s identification and claimed they were astonished and outraged to learn that their loved one had been detained after watching the video.

Paktishev, who hails from the small town of Mezdhurechenskiy in western Siberia, claimed to be the leader of a team of three other snipers in the video.

The Telegram channel, which went live on Saturday, has broadcast plenty of videos and photographs of captured Russian soldiers, sparking outrage from their relatives, who say they were surprised to learn of their loved ones’ role in the invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine has urged relatives of captured Russian soldiers to contact them and express their objections to Russia’s involvement in the conflict.

There is no information on Leonid Paktishev’s family that has been made public. Ukrainian officials, on the other hand, spoke with three members of Leonid’s family to confirm his identity.
Paktishev’s sister, Yelena Polivtseva, claimed she was taken aback and had no idea when she learned that his brother was fighting in Ukraine after watching the video.
When challenged about her brother’s role in Russia’s unlawful invasion of Ukraine, Polivtseva said she wasn’t “equipped” to evaluate the “commander-in- chief’s” decision. She did express hope, though, that the bloodshed would end.
