Mark Gubicza has been with Bally Sports West for 21 years. He will be providing color commentary for the Angels broadcasts for the 16th consecutive season. Gubicza will also continue to serve as an analyst for the Angels’ “Angels Live” pre-and post-game shows, as he has for the past 17 seasons.

During the 2021 season, Gubicza announced two “MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube” matchups with Matt Vasgersian on April 22 and June 17.

He previously co-hosted the FS Baseball Report, which broadcast nationwide on Fox Sports and featured previews of upcoming contests and league standings. Gubicza provided game commentary for the Minnesota Twins from Los Angeles in 2004. In April 2000, he made his debut appearance as an analyst for FSN on Baseball Today and the National Sports Report. For three years, he also aired the Southern California Baseball Report on AM570.

Gubicza played 14 seasons in the Major Leagues throughout his professional baseball career. He spent 13 seasons with the Kansas City Royals after being drafted in 1981, in 1985, they won the World Championship, and in 1988, they won 20 games. He was chosen to the AL All-Star team in 1988 and 1989.

In 1997, he retired from baseball and joined the Angels. In 2006, he was inducted into the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame and Pennsylvania For his numerous accomplishments on the field. He was also inducted into the 2010 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

The Kansas City Royals selected him in the second round of the 1981 Major League Baseball draft. He made his professional baseball debut at 18 with the Royals Gold of the Gulf Coast League, going 8-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 56 innings. Gubicza played in the Florida State Class A-League for the Fort Myers Royals in 1982 but was injured for most of the season.

After he retired, the Royals offered Gubicza a job as a roving minor-league pitching teacher, but he declined. The Royals of Kansas City and the Angels of Anaheim, he played 14 seasons in the major leagues. Gubicza was named head baseball coach at Chaminade High School in West Hills, California, in August 2002, a position he held until 2007.

Kevin Pillar, a future MLB outfielder, was one of his tutored students. Chad Gubicza, Gubicza’s son, went to Chaminade. Calabasas High School, coached by Gubicza’s former Kansas City partner Bret Saberhagen, would occasionally play Chaminade.
