What Happened To Deborah Marion Since Son Lorenzen Wright Murder?

Deborah Marion has found peace of mind after the killers of her son, former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, were sentenced to prison. In May 2022, she attended the parole plea of Lorenzen’s ex-wife Sherra Wright-Robinson, which was denied by the court.

Deborah Marion was fighting for justice for her son, former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, who was shot dead in 2010. She had constantly been looking for answers to the murder of her son for several years.

Finally, after seven years of unsolved mystery, the gun believed to have been used to murder Wright was found in a Walnut, Mississippi lake on November 9, 2017. Shelby County church deacon at Mt. Olive No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church in Collierville, Billy Ray Turner was indicted on the first-degree murder.

In December 2017, Billy Ray Turner was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, whereas, in July 2019, Wright-Robinson pleaded guilty to facilitation of first-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Lorenzen Wright was born to Herb Wright and Deborah Marion. He was born and raised in Oxford, Mississippi. He is one of the four children of his parents.

The deceased former basketball player was survived by his parents, his siblings Lou Wright, Savia Archie, and Adriane Harris, as well as his six children, Lorenzen Wright Jr., Shamar Wright, Loren Wright, Lamar Wright, Sofia Wright, and Lawson Wright. His sons Lorenzen Jr., Shamar, and Lamar are professional basketball players.

Lorenzen’s father, Herb Wright was a professional basketball player who once had a tryout with the Utah Jazz. He also competed in Finland and was working for the Memphis Police Department. When Lorenzen was seven years old, Herb was paralyzed by a gunshot to the back.

After Lorenzen Wright went missing on July 18, 2010, his dead body was discovered on July 28 on Callis-Cutoff Road in Memphis, Tennessee. His bullet-riddled dead body was decomposing in the wooden area where it was found.

After seven years of unanswered questions and the mystery surrounding the murder, a gun led to the murderer Billy Ray Turner. It was later revealed that Lorenzen’s ex-wife Sierra facilitated the murder.

The possible motive for the murder was believed to be money and greed. It was revealed that a $1 million life insurance policy was held by Lorenzen Wright. In 2014, Sierra agreed to a confidentiality settlement of a dispute over how she spent the money to benefit her six children.

But finally, the guilty were punished by the court. Billy Ray Turner was sentenced to life in prison, whereas, Sherra was sentenced to 30 years in prison, much to the dismay of Lorenzen’s mother, Deborah who wanted her ex-daughter-in-law to face the same charge as Turner. Nevertheless, justice was served at last.
