Who Is Mary Berg?
Mary Berg is a cookbook author and a cook who became known for winning Masterchef Canada.
She was born in Pickering, Ontario, on December 13, 1989. She was just four when her father passed away in a car accident while her mother and brother sustained some injuries.
When she was seven, she helped prepare meals for the family, and at thirteen years, she began cooking dinner for her family. Mary went to Wilfrid Laurier University and gained a Bachelor’s degree with a major in history and English. She wanted to pursue further studies and went to the University of Toronto, where she got a Master’s degree in information science.
Her initial career was not in cooking but as an insurance broker. She worked as an insurance broker for a while before she left to compete in Masterchef Canada.
Mary not only competed in the completion but also won the competition and became the first-ever female winner of the show. Her life changed drastically after she won the competition. She began to be seen as a food expert in various shows and began to host her cooking show, Mary’s Kitchen Crush, which began appearing on CTV in 2019.
The show won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Lifestyle Series. Similarly, in 2020, the cook was also awarded the best Lifestyle Host at the 8th Canadian Screen Awards.
Her show gained back the same award in 2021, and she also won the best Lifestyle Host award. She ventured into writing and published her first cookbook called Kitchen Party in September 2019.
