Disney announced that the viewership for the Oscars was higher than previously estimated, after including those who watched on mobile devices and laptops.

The company, which owns the ABC network and Hulu, had initially reported a decline in ratings for the event, where the indie film “Anora” won several awards.

However, on Tuesday, they revealed that an additional 1.6 million viewers tuned in via mobile, raising the total viewership for the night to 19.69 million.

Disney noted that as viewing habits evolve, there could be a more significant gap between the initial estimates and the final count.

They also mentioned that this updated figure made it the most-watched Oscars in five years.

This year marked the first time the show was streamed live, but some viewers faced technical difficulties and missed the final awards.

The revised number shows a slight increase from last year’s early ratings of 19.5 million, during a ceremony where Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer took home numerous awards and featured live performances from the hit film Barbie.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Oscars ratings plummeted to as low as 10.4 million. A decade ago, the Academy Awards telecast regularly attracted over 40 million viewers.
