Jennie Garth recently opened up about a long-standing issue regarding her involvement in Dalton James’ departure from “Beverly Hills, 90210.” On her podcast, “90210MG,” she expressed her regrets to James for her role in his sudden exit after just 12 episodes.

Dalton played Mark Reese, a love interest for Garth’s character, Kelly Taylor, and had originally signed on for the whole season. However, his time on the show ended unexpectedly, reportedly due to a lack of chemistry with Garth.

Garth conveyed her remorse, saying,

“I’m sorry for my part in whatever happened, if that had a negative effect on you in any way.”

James accepted her apology with grace, mentioning that he holds no grudges and appreciated being able to talk about it openly.

He shared that he had been personally picked for the role by executive producer Aaron Spelling and was dealing with depression while adjusting to fatherhood during his time on the show.

Their podcast conversation shed light on the behind-the-scenes situation that led to his departure. Garth admitted she had raised concerns about their on-screen chemistry to the producers, which ultimately played a role in the decision to write James out of the series. Despite the difficulties he encountered, James reflected on his time positively, noting it was a great opportunity and he benefited financially from it.

In a previous interview, writer Larry Mollin suggested another reason for James’ exit, claiming Aaron Spelling had told writers that James was antisemitic to explain his removal from the show. However, neither Garth nor James has confirmed this claim in their recent discussion.
