Kamara is accused of assaulting a man outside a Las Vegas nightclub. As a result, Kamara is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation in Nevada, and a $10 million dollar damage civil lawsuit is ongoing in New Orleans.
Even while there has been some movement, the Alvin Kamara Las Vegas battery case has not yet been resolved. Following Kamara’s most recent court appearance on November 9, the patient’s judge decided to postpone the forthcoming talks hearing for 60 days.
Alvin Kamara Legal Issues: What Did He Do?
The man who accused Saints running back Alvin Kamara of assaulting him outside a Las Vegas casino in February during the 2022 Pro Bowl weekend has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Kamara in New Orleans.
Around 6:30 am on February 5, Houston resident Darnell Greene accused Kamara and a few of his friends of beating him “brutally” as they left Drai’s Nightclub at The Cromwell Hotel and Casino. A copy of the lawsuit that was submitted in the Civil District Court of Orleans on behalf of Greene by The Buzbee Law Firm and Garner & Munoz was obtained by Sports Illustrated.
The suit stated that in addition to being “temporarily unconscious and helpless on the floor,” Greene also suffered a “broken orbital lobe,” a “severely injured shoulder, back, and neck,” and other injuries as a result of the vicious assault.
After the alleged assault, Greene was picked up off the ground and wheeled to a medical professional before being taken to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.
The complaint states that due to his injuries during the attack, Greene is still undergoing treatment and will need multiple surgeries.
Is Alvin Kamara Suspended?
Alvin Kamara has so far been able to travel with the group, both in New Orleans and while the Saints are playing away from home, in London earlier this season.
The trial date in March will fall squarely in the offseason, about two weeks before the NFL begins its free agency period, so it shouldn’t interfere with any of Kamara’s team commitments.
Kamara should be able to finish the season without missing any games because of a suspension from the league office in New York.
The NFL has a long-standing policy of administering suspensions, fines, and other league sanctions following the conclusion of the legal process. Any potential break for Kamara won’t take effect until 2023 because this case won’t be resolved until after the 2022 season.
One could argue that Kamara should accept the suspension immediately so the Saints can restock and retool to be more competitive in 2023.
Alvin Kamara Arrest And Charges
Greene is requesting $10 million in damages in the filing, with at least $5 million going toward the past, present, and future medical costs and losses in income, pain and suffering, disfigurement, and mental anguish.
Greene also demands pre-and post-judgment interest as permitted by law, all court costs, and exemplary damages of at least $5 million.
On January 23, 2023, attorneys will reassemble in court, but this is just one more stage. More urgently, the judge also scheduled a trial for March 1, 2023, likely to call for Kamara’s participation.
Video surveillance captured Greene, Kamara, Chiefs defensive back Chris Lammons, and others standing in line to board the elevator inside the nightclub. But according to the lawsuit, Kamara threw his arms across Greene’s chest to obstruct Greene from using the elevator.
