He has presented popular morning newspaper programs on television channels where he summarized and read articles published in local daily newspapers as he has won numerous national awards for his programs.
Bandula contributed to the success of the popular newspaper Lankadeepa in 1991 and is the founder of the Free Media Movement in Sri Lanka. He is regarded as one of the founders of the popular newspaper Lakbima and has published several Sri Lankan political and journalistic books.

On March 16, 2013, the Quadrangular Elle Championship was played for the Bandula Padmakumara Challenge Trophy which was held at the Nakaloka Grounds in Welisara. The competition was organized for the 30th Anniversary of “Kreeda magazine”, published by Lake House.

In the 1970s, Padmakumara became involved in the publishing of women’s papers such as Sarasi, Rajina, and Kumari, in which he was dubbed the “Mal Paththarakaraya” because of his founding for Youth Books in Sri Lanka. Newspapers such as Patathi, Kumari, and Araliya which he founded at the time, and newspapers such as Rajina were very successful at the time.
In 2016, he started his own publishing company, “Print Book”. He has published two magazines; Adaraneeya Ammi and Business Mantra. In 2018, “Print Book” launched a new magazine Sebe. The new newspaper is made in black and white according to the previous edition of the Ravaya newspaper.
