Bell Hooks Death Cause And Obituary – How Did She Die?

Bell Hooks was an author, social activist, and professor who died on 15 December 2021.

The 69-year-old Black feminist passed away in her home located in Berea. A press release from her niece, Ebony Motley, confirmed the sad news. As for the death cause, it seems to be an illness. Reportedly, her friends and family surrounded her during her demise.

She was born Gloria Jean Watkins on 25 September 1952 in Hopkinsville to Veodis and Rosa Bell Watkins. Her African-American parents had seven children. Her father worked as a janitor and her mother as a maid in white families.

After graduating from a racially segregated high school in Christian County, she obtained her BA in English from Stanford University in 1973. Then in 1976, she completed her post-graduate study at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

She then did her doctorate in literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz, obtaining it in 1983.

The passing of bell hooks hurts, deeply. At the same time, as a human being I feel so grateful she gave humanity so many gifts. AIN’T I A WOMAN: BLACK WOMEN AND FEMINISM is one of her many classics. And ALL ABOUT LOVE changed me. Thank you, bell hooks. Rest in our love. 1/4 pic.twitter.com/lXnAlaZpng

Bell’s professional venture began at the University of Southern California as an English professor and senior lecturer in Ethnic Studies. She wrote her first work, And There We Wept, under her pen name, bell hooks, which is her maternal great-grandmother’s name.

After that, she published her first book, Ain’t I a Woman? Black Women and Feminism, in 1981, and officially began her literary journey. Since then, she has written over 40 books.

Hooks achieved a lot of accolades in her life including, 1991 The American Book Awards/ Before Columbus Foundation Award, 1994 The Writer’s Award from the Lila Wallace–Reader’s Digest Fund, PEN/Hemingway Award, National Book Award for Fiction, and Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.

Regarding the funeral, there aren’t any reports on the subject.

    Bell Hooks Husband

As for Bell Hooks’ husband, she didn’t seem to have one.

In 2017, she said she didn’t have a partner and was celibate for 17 years. However, the author did talk about her interest in having one but didn’t think her life was less meaningful.
