There were reports of broken noses, broken hands and wrists, broken ankles, broken feet, broken backs, and fractured bones.

His wounds and the lingering agony they left behind eventually rendered him permanently crippled. Bill had undergone 38 orthopedic surgeries to heal his many wounds.

“There was no reason for me to think that I would get better. There was simply no hope. I had to commit suicide. The keys to happiness are health, family, team, home, shelter, hope, and the dream that tomorrow will be better.

It was actually my family who had stayed with me. There was still our house. It was fragile when you started to lose your health.

I had lost everything, including self-respect and honor, and had given up hope that things would get better. I just realized how difficult this path would be and how unlikely I would succeed.

Currently, he is doing much better.

Walton played for four injury-plagued seasons for the San Diego Clippers (now the Los Angeles Clippers), who signed him after he missed the 1978–1979 season. He played with the Boston Celtics for two seasons in the latter stages of his career, who assisted him in reviving his career.

That year, Walton won his second title, was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year and was Robert Parish’s backup center.
