According to the SHOCKWAVE and Flash Fire Jet Trucks Facebook website, Chris Darnell’s father Neal mentioned the reason behind his youngest son’s death was mechanical failure. He had passed away from his injuries around 1:00 pm.
Battle Creek police investigated the case and identified the victim as Chris Darnell. He was behind the wheel of the Shockwave Jet Truck when it exploded during a pyrotechnic accident and appeared in flames, reported NBC News.
The driver, Chris, was reportedly racing two planes at around 1:10 pm during the air show at Battle Creek Field. It was a terrible accident, and the show was canceled when the incident happened.
