Country music star Lisa McHugh has broken her silence in a heartfelt health update after being diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
The singer described the past seven weeks as a “complete rollercoaster” and shared her determination to make a full recovery while acknowledging the physical and emotional challenges she has faced.

Lisa McHugh’s Health Battle and FND Diagnosis
Lisa McHugh revealed her diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder in July after what she described as an “incredibly scary and very difficult couple of weeks in hospital.” She underwent numerous tests, including CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, blood tests, and lumbar punctures.
FND is a condition that affects how the brain and nervous system work, leading to symptoms such as limb weakness, paralysis, seizures, and cognitive issues. McHugh also has trigeminal neuralgia, which causes severe facial pain.
Statement from Lisa McHugh’s Instagram post:
“After what has been an incredibly scary and very difficult couple of weeks in hospital having multiple CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, blood tests, lumbar punctures and every kind of test you could imagine, I have just been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), as well as Trigeminal Neuralgia that I was diagnosed with earlier this year.”

Stress and Trauma as Triggers for Her Condition
McHugh identified stress and trauma as significant triggers for her condition. She cited the past year, particularly since the birth of her daughter Hallie, as the “most stressful period” of her life.
Her daughter’s health struggles, including a hospitalization for RSV, added to this stress. McHugh believes her body reached a point of overload, leading to her diagnosis.
Lisa McHugh’s explanation:
“I guess the stress and trauma of this last year and everything we’ve went through has finally caught up with me and my body and it’s now decided to make me physically stop, process and heal from everything properly.”
The Road to Recovery and Lifestyle Changes
McHugh is now focused on recovering and has committed to resetting her lifestyle. She emphasizes improving her mindset, emotions, nutrition, sleep, exercise, and work-life balance.
Although she doesn’t know how long her recovery will take, she is confident she will make a “100% full recovery.” Her approach includes adapting her life to manage the condition and prevent future flare-ups.
Lisa McHugh’s recovery pledge:
“I don’t know how long it’s going to take, but I do know that I’m 100 per cent going to make a full recovery because I fully believe that I have the ability to do that and I will do that.”
Gratitude for Support and Looking Ahead
McHugh expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, medical staff, and her family. She specifically thanked the staff at the South West Acute Hospital for their “first-class treatment.”
She plans to take a break from her career to concentrate on healing and spending time with her family, but she intends to share her recovery journey with her supporters.
Lisa McHugh’s message of thanks:
“A special mention of thanks must go out to all of the doctors, specialists, nurses & staff of the South West Acute Hospital. The care and first class treatment I’ve had since I arrived has been absolutely amazing.”
