By the age of 25, Danny Schatz had a stable career working as an electrician for a railroad business in North Dakota, but he desired more.
Together with his wife Diane, they took the risky but successful step of opening their own truck stop, Schatz Crossroads Truck Stop in Minot, North Dakota.

In due course, Danny and Diane Schatz acquired Donny Schatz Racing and became the car’s owners. Prior to joining Tony Stewart Racing, Donny Schatz raced his parents’ car and won two World of Outlaws championships in it.
