Kurakova started the season with a silver medal at the 2021 CS Lombardia Trophy. She then competed in the CS Nebelhorn Trophy in 2021, hoping to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Poland.
After a combination blunder in the short program, she finished sixth, but a second-place free skate propelled her to silver, clinching the second of six open Olympic tickets.
