“A lot of injuries are managed at a more junior level before escalating, so I knew this one was serious. Of all the trauma cases I’ve seen in over 20 years, this was among the most complex.”
Flintoff suffered broken teeth, a fractured upper jaw, and lost significant portions of his upper and lower lips. The five-hour reconstructive surgery was like “putting a jigsaw puzzle back together—except the pieces weren’t there”.

Rachael Flintoff, Freddie’s wife, shared the emotional toll of seeing him post-accident.
“I’ve never seen someone so scared in their eyes. He just stared at me, looking to know how bad he was. I pulled myself together and told him, ‘It’s fine. You’re going to be okay.’”
She also prepared their children, saying:
“Your dad looks different now, but it’s going to get better. I don’t want you to look shocked because that’s going to knock him.”
