- He publicly switched his recovery path from rehab to a holiday.
Freddy Brazier, the 20-year-old son of late reality star Jade Goody and TV presenter Jeff Brazier, has bravely revealed his traumatic journey with addiction and mental health struggles.
In a deeply personal disclosure on his podcast, he shared being sectioned multiple times after suffering manic episodes, while also making shocking claims about his grandmother’s role in his early drug use.

This revelation comes amid a very public family conflict and his own attempts to recover and rebuild fractured relationships.
Freddy’s Nan Got Him Hooked on Drugs at 12
Freddy Brazier has shockingly claimed that his maternal grandmother, Jackiey Budden, was responsible for getting him addicted to drugs when he was just 12 years old. Speaking candidly on his A Load of Old Cobblers podcast, he stated that while she wasn’t the person with whom he first tried drugs, she was undoubtedly the one who fostered his addiction.
This allegation adds a deeply troubling layer to the ongoing public tension between his father, Jeff, and his grandmother, which has previously involved legal action.
Freddy said on his podcast: “No, it wasn’t with my Nan [the first time] although my Nan is definitely the person who got me hooked. It’s one of those things, I was 12”
He Was Sectioned and Admitted to Rehab
The young model disclosed a profoundly difficult personal history, detailing a cycle of addiction, rehabilitation, and serious mental health crises that included being sectioned.
He openly listed the struggles he has faced since his pre-teen years, painting a picture of a challenging and ongoing battle for wellness. His honesty highlights the severe impact of early substance abuse and its connection to his mental health.
Freddy stated: “I’ve been smoking since I was 12, I’ve been to rehab, I’ve been sectioned, I’ve had manic episodes, I’ve been sectioned. There’s been a real journey and it’s been a tough one”
Freddy Feared His Nan Would Kill Herself
Freddy revealed an immense psychological burden he carried for years: a terrifying fear that his grandmother would take her own life if he did not prioritize his relationship with her.
This fear, he explained, led him to actively push his father away and spend extended periods living with his nan, during which he would “go on mad ones.” This emotional manipulation profoundly affected his family dynamics and personal well-being.
Freddy explained: “I feel like if I didn’t prioritise the relationship with my mum’s mum Jackiey… I was scared that if I wasn’t [around her], she’d kill herself”
From Rehab Plans to a Boys’ Holiday
In June, Freddy announced serious plans to enter a rehabilitation facility in Spain to address his addiction, expressing a sincere desire to get clean and mend his family relationships.
However, in a sudden change of heart, he publicly U-turned on this decision, declaring on social media that he felt he needed a “boys holiday” or a retreat instead of formal treatment. This shift highlighted the volatile nature of his journey toward recovery.
Freddy posted on Instagram: “You know what I don’t need rehab! I just need a holiday with a good group of boys or a retreat”
