A tragic accident occurred in the T2 category of the Dakar Rally on April 26, 2023, resulting in the death of Laurent Lichtleucheter, 46.

Due to the dust on the race track, visibility was extremely low, making it difficult for the drivers to see.
As a result of a collision with a competitor at 140km/hr on the co-pilot side, their car burst into flames.
Tragically, the Frenchman, Laurent Lichtleucheter, was killed instantly.
When medical personnel arrived at the crash site by helicopter, it was too late for Lichtleucheter.
However, Patrice escaped from the burning vehicle from the passenger compartment, but he suffered from severe burns and was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment.
