According to a source close to production, the 41-year-old Pennsylvania native will temporarily leave the NBC drama to handle a personal issue, Us reported on Friday, January 20.
Since the show’s 2012 debut, Kinney has played Lieutenant Kelly Severide, making her one of the few original cast members to continue to appear in every episode.
The actor’s absence was apparently announced to the cast and crew on Friday, according to Deadline, who broke the news first.
