Although Anthony Joseph Templet was born in Texas, he spent most of his formative years in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where, according to the three-part original series, his existence was unhappily neither warm nor secure.
According to the docuseries, he reportedly convinced the youngster that his mother didn’t want or care for him since she had her issues, essentially ensuring that he never brought up the subject again.
Anthony’s father was left in charge of him as a result, and the product claims that he not only forbade Anthony from ever enrolling in school but also gave little thought to his general development.
He learned to read and write from his stepmother Susan when he was ten years old, along with a few other things, but he was still not allowed to learn anything else.

For 11 years after Thompson reported her son missing, she was unable to determine whether or not Templet was still alive.
She had no idea Templet had spent years being mistreated and shunned by his father.

Neighbors claimed Burt homeschooled his son and was very secretive about him.

Following Anthony’s arrest, other family members said the 17-year-old had been gone for more than ten years. According to Natasha, who identified herself as Anthony’s sister, Father Burt took Anthony from the Texas home of the family in 2008.
At the time, Anthony was just five years old. The sister claimed, “He kidnapped him from our house.” It was a very violent relationship that lasted for nearly ten years between Burt and my mother.
“All these years, his father has kept him apart and mistreated him. My courageous brother had to defend himself from that wicked man for the last time.”
Burt remarried Susan after relocating to Baton Rouge. They were married until the beginning of 2019 when Susan filed for a protective order against her husband and left him.
Susan stated on social media that Burt had allegedly knocked out several of her teeth, according to WAFB. She was eventually revealed to be the relative who made the call that started the fight between Burt and his son Anthony.
His wife supported Anthony throughout the judicial proceedings.
