She would eventually go on to spend nearly a decade as CTV News’s national affairs correspondent before becoming chief news anchor of CTV National News with Lisa LaFlamme in 2011.

Veteran news anchor won “best national news anchor” at the Canadian Screen Awards five times, including in 2021 and 2022.

She is a recipient of the Order of Canada and earlier this year won best news anchor at the Canadian Screen Awards in 2019.

LaFlamme announced the change in a Twitter video and subsequent news release, both posted on Monday. In the video, LaFlamme said she was “shocked and saddened” by the decision, which she learned of on June 29.

Globe and Mail columnist and entertainment journalist Johanna Schneller told CBC Radios Here and Now that the nature of LaFlamme’s departure stuck out for how abrupt it was.

In the video, Lisa admitted that, at 58, she still believed she had plenty of time sharing stories and an influence on our daily lives. Instead, she was humbled by the people who trusted me to tell their tale before leaving CTV.

Journalist and author Jeffrey Dvorkin, who previously worked as managing editor at CBC and vice-president of NPR, told CBC News that while LaFlamme’s departure was sudden, it reflects how modern news organizations tend to deal with replacements.

Where Is Lisa LaFlamme Going?

Lisa, one of the most recognizable journalists in Canada, announced on Monday that her employer had ended her contract for over three decades.

The longtime CTV anchor Lisa LaFlamme has not revealed her further plans post her contract cancellation.

LaFlamme assumed CTV’s top news anchor role in 2011 when Lloyd Robertson retired at 77 and served more than four decades as a national news anchor at the network.

In 1989, the veteran Canadian journalist began her career at CTV’s Kitchener affiliate CKCO as a copywriter and script assistant and later moved on to become an anchor in 1997.

The chief news anchor of CTV has covered the war in Afghanistan, federal elections, natural disasters, the global pandemic, and, most recently, the papal visit to Canada.

In addition to receiving numerous accolades for broadcasting and journalism work throughout her career, she paved the way for women in Canadian news broadcasting. She was inducted into the Order of Ontario and the Order of Canada. Since 2011, she has served as the network’s National News anchor.

Furthermore, she has interviewed the most notable Canadian and international political figures, such as Boris Johnson, Bill Clinton, Prince Harry, and John Kerry.

Lisa, the former CTV anchor, has accumulated a net worth of around $3 million to $ 5 million over her journalism career.

LaFlamme, a longtime CTV News anchor, was surprised when Bell Media fired her. She broke her silence after Bell Media fired her, saying she was taken aback and shocked by the “business decision” to terminate her contract after 35 years.

Bell Media announced her departure today, but LaFlamme says the media told her of the decision on June 29.

In a separate announcement, Bell Media says Omar Sachedina will replace LaFlamme starting on Sept. 5. Sachedina is the CTV News national affairs correspondent and joined the network in 2009.

Viewers and other journalists were astonished and dismayed that bell media would not renew longtime CTV anchor Lisa LaFlamme’s contract. Users used social media to voice their displeasure and disappointment that the well-known media figure would not be taking the CTV National News anchor seat again.
