Fact Check: Is Patrick Brown Bilingual?
Brown was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and was born in Toronto of Irish and Italian heritage.
He can communicate in both Italian and Russian. Brown, a history Ph.D., did not grow up knowing a foreign language.
However, his desire to continue his strong interest in Russian history led him to understand that he would need to acquire the Russian language in order to fully immerse himself in the subject.
Brown began studying Russian on his own because the university where he completed his bachelor studies did not offer a Russian language program, so he used flashcards to acquire terminology.
He went to Middlebury College’s Kathryn Davis School of Russian to fill in the gaps and improve his functional competence in the Russian language.
It is an extremely intensive immersion program in which students pledge not to speak English.
He subsequently improved his language skills at Brandeis University, where he studied Russian while also pursuing doctoral studies in the history department.
Brown, an experienced language learner, believes that the collaborative element of a foreign language classroom sets it apart from other academic environments.
Patrick Brown Parents And Family Background
Patrick Brown’s mother’s name is Judy Brown and his father’s name is Edmond Brown.
Edmond Brown, his father, was a criminal lawyer in Peel Region and a former federal New Democratic Party candidate for the Davenport riding in 1979 and 1980.
Judy Brown, his mother, is of partial Italian ancestry and worked as a teacher and principal in Barrie.

Patrick is happily married to Genevieve Gualtieri, with whom he has one son. Gualtieri is a fundraiser and a social worker.
He was born into a wonderful family, but there is no information on her family that would indicate whether or not he has siblings.
Patrick Brown Career
Patrick Brown’s political career began in the early 2000s when he served on the Barrie City Council.
He was a federal Conservative Member of Parliament for the Barrie riding from 2006 to 2015. Brown resigned as a federal MP in May 2015 after being elected leader of the Ontario PC Party.
On September 3, 2015, he won a provincial by-election in Simcoe North and was elected to the Ontario Legislature.

He resigned as party leader in January 2018 following claims of sexual misconduct, and interim leader Vic Fedeli banned him from the party caucus on February 16, 2018.
After an abortive second effort for the PC leadership, he stepped out from provincial politics.
Since George Frederick Marter, Brown became the only permanent Ontario Conservative leader who did not lead the party into an election.
In the 2018 municipal election, Brown upset incumbent Linda Jeffrey for mayor of Brampton.
