The rape case was one of the factors that led to Paloma’s death on May 31, 1985, in what appears to have been suicide by hanging.
She endured many difficulties throughout her life. She was allegedly raped by three men, including two notable actors, in 1982. It, and even a few times a day. Following the incident, she was reportedly ostracized by the entertainment industry.
A diary was discovered in her bedroom, alleging financial issues and anxiety about her relationship with her mother and boyfriend. However, the integrity of the journal entries has been questioned, particularly by her manager Babette “Babe” Corcuerra, who maintains she was earning well.
The mystery surrounding the case and Paloma’s murder were believed to be memorialized in the popular Eraserheads song “Spoliarium.” She was interred at Olongapo Memorial Park in Zambales

Notwithstanding the suspects’ previous apologies, Tito Sotto has maintained his stance, denying any role in the whitewashing of the rape case, claiming that the controversy was a publicity ploy by Paloma’s Party.
Sotto stated that he was not a culprit in Paloma’s rape and denied using his position in government to influence court judgment. Before being chosen as a senator in 1992, Sotto served as vice mayor of Quezon City from 1988 to 1990.
In 2018, the older Sotto urged The Philippine Inquirer to delete published online information regarding the Pepsi Paloma Case harmful to his present status as a Senator.
Paloma had already tried suicide, and her mental health was claimed to have suffered due to her trauma. Several people were taken aback by her death, which sparked suspicion about its circumstances.

She was born Paloma Delia Dueas Smith, the eldest daughter of Lydia Dueas, a native of Borac, Northern Samar, and Kenneth Smith, an American letter carrier who abandoned his family while the children were little.
Paloma was 14 when a talent scout named Tita Ester introduced her to talent manager Rey dela Cruz for a future film career in 1980. With the release of Brown Emmanuelle in 1981, she made her cinematic debut.
With Coca Nicolas and Sarsi Emmanuelle, she was promoted as one of the so-called “soft drink” beauties under the stage name Pepsi Paloma.
Rey Dela Cruz, as previously said, started her entertainment career. She was signed with Myra Manibog, Sarsi Emmanuelle, and Coca Nicolas, all talented women. The four females were put in a group whose name was Softdrinks Beautie.
According to rumors, the deceased Actress had a son named Chuck D. Smith, who was adopted. On the other hand, Pepsi Paloma’s daughter’s reports are false. Moreover, she was still a teenager when she died. In other words, she did not have children.
