As reported by various sites, the rumors began with a Facebook page. The page shared a post about Strong’s death which attracted numerous likes.

During Friday night’s Christmas broadcast of Saturday Night Live, the 11-season veteran Cecily Strong received a heartfelt farewell.
As mentioned above, Strong is the longest-tenured female member in SNL’s history. On 17 December 2022, the sketch comedy and variety show announced the news through a tweet.
The popular late-night show wrote, “tonight we send off one of the best do it. We will miss you, Cecily!”
Cecily’s final performance was the same evening her departure was officially revealed.

What Did Cecily Strong Say After Announcing Her Departure?
Hours before announcing her departure from the late-night program in her final broadcast, Cecily shared a touching story on social media and bid her farewell.
The Illinois-born star wrote, “my heart is bursting.” Cecily said she got her dream job ten and a half years ago. On the first workday, she tried to be cool. Strong wanted to make it look like she knew what she was doing and was supposed to be there.
The star continued she left that night at 11 after saying goodbye to everyone. But she got stuck wandering around the building as none of the elevators went to the first floor.
Per the Actress, she tried hard not to go back and went to every floor while trying to figure out the exit. But she was missing and ended up going upstairs.
Colin Jost helps her out, and the duo is now best friends. Strong’s best friend also walked her over to the secret night-time elevator.
“It felt as impossible to leave that night as it does now,” Cecily wrote. She also thanked her colleagues.
Cecily’s SNL exit was kept secret until hours before the show. While apologizing for being a little quiet about it, the comedian said she kept quiet as she didn’t want extra pressure on something already so emotional.
